Pard Publishing was formed in 2021 as a partnership between longtime friends Dennis “Bubba” Byrd and Stan Parris. At the time, the company was formed, Parris was working on a book about his mission experiences in countries like Venezuela, Turkey and China, among others. The first book under the Pard Publishing label was Parris’ “Just Outside of Hope, which sold more than 2,000 copies. The company is currently working on at least three other projects, including a second title by Parris, “Just Unfriend Me … Or Not,” which is due out by October or November.
Although the company was not formed as a non-profit, all profits from Parris’ first book went to mission causes. Byrd and Parris said they plan to continue to help fund missions through book sales.
Dennis A. “Bubba” Byrd is a retired journalist, who spent almost 50 years as a writer, editor, bureau chief, and publisher, working at newspapers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He also spent about nine years writing for The Associated Press, the world’s largest newsgathering organization.
Byrd got into the book-publishing business as a collaboration with friend and author Stan Parris, a college friend (Henderson State University) and retired minister.
The Rev. Stan Parris retired as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, after pastoring churches in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, including First Baptist Church of Hope, Arkansas, his hometown and the church he belonged to when the Lord called him to the ministry. He had discovered a new love of writing and decided if he was got to be an author, he should first write about his missionary experiences and how he saw the Lord work in the lives of the unsaved in several countries where he had lived or visited. That first book, published in 2021, was titled “Just Outside of Hope,” a double meaning related to the way his dad always described where he lived and the travails of people who have no real hope until they meet Jesus.
