Stan Parris’ second book is a compilation of Facebook posts about his retirement experiences of doing the family grocery shopping at Walmart, just 1.3 miles from his country home in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Parris retired as pastor of Second Baptist Church and announced to his wife, Charlotte, that he would take over the responsibility of buying groceries and fixing breakfast each morning since he was not longer employed. He enjoyed writing about his experiences, called Walmart Words, and got tremendous positive responses from readers.
He decided to change his posts to something more meaningful after a woman at a church he was preaching at after retirement walked the aisle to tell him how much she enjoyed his Walmart posts.
“She didn’t mention anything about the sermon,” he said later, and decided he “didn’t want Walmart to be my legacy.” His newer postings are under the heading, “Just Saying,” and always contain a life or spiritual lesson. The new book is divided into two distinct sections- or books- one for Walmart Words and the other, Just Saying.
